THE COLOR OF GLOBALIZATION
THE COLOR OF GLOBALIZATION

This image is intended to challenge the equation of flag=patriotism=support for the war. Initially, after 9/11, I created a large American flag in typical colors using peace cranes. At the “conclusion” of the Iraqi war, I’ve come to view the flag differently. Here, the flag is presented as an image floating in isolation against the sky, and all of the cranes represent camouflage worn by the US military. Usually, camouflage is employed to hide or conceal a surface, but here it is used to reveal a current underneath. Though it pained me to make this, I do feel that this representation of the flag is more in line with what the World sees when we hoist our flag, especially abroad.
